Live from NPR News in Washington. I'm Jack Spear. As Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has arrived in the mid-east, the UN Security Council

dissembled today to discuss the recent airstrikes carried out by US forces against

Iran-backed militias.

The U.S. has hit targets in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.

The strikes in response to a deadly drone strike in Jordan that claim the lives of three U.S. Army

reservists.

Peres Greg My Bureau's more.

The message the US is trying to send is that it will use serious

firepower in an attempt to make these attacks stop.

It's not necessarily how the message will be received it then, especially by Iran.

But so far, the groups in Iraq and Syria have not launched any new rounds of attack.

The Hutis have, were apparently planning to fire some missiles and the U.S. struck at them again on Sunday.

I think there's a bit of a wait and see right now if these groups will continue with these

attacks.

Still Iran's military allies in the region have shown little sign of being deterred by the US strikes so far.

President Biden is urging congressional Republicans to get behind a bipartisan border deal brokered in the Senate recently.

During a visit in Las Vegas today, the President said he's been urging lawmakers to

address the U.S. Southern borders since he got in office.
