Crestfallen, nothing personal word of the day.

It's Thursday, August 24, 2023, and we should all feel crestfallen for what happened overnight

to Shohei Otani.

I'd like to do this show entirely in a monotone with no emotion whatsoever, trying to reflect

the absolute disappointment, not just in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but in Major

League Baseball, and in Shohei Otani and his family and friends, to say nothing of the

rest of his teammates.

But that's not how we do nothing personal.

We do it with energy and we do it with verve and intonation, Shohei Otani, despondent.

Here's what happened.

Double header against the reds, hadn't pitched, missed a turn, tired.

He's getting cramps, he had this issue, a nail issue, still pitching like an ace, hitting

like an MVP, takes the mound, velocity a little down.

Your pitcher's velocity is down.

You look at your GM and he looks at you and you say, all right, let's give him a couple

more.

Let's see.

Maybe he's just saving it.

This is what Otani does.

He knows when to turn it on.

It's like watching a great basketball player only go half speed.
