On this day in 1605, Guy Fox was arrested in connection to the gunpowder plot,

a failed attempt to assassinate King James the first.

The date of his capture has since been celebrated

Fox, a diehard Catholic, sought to assassinate Protestant King James the First

by blowing up the Upper House of Parliament during its state opening.
