I'm Ian Masters, and today we'll examine a number of stories and issues in the news.

We'll begin with the breaking news of a shooting of National Guardsmen from West Virginia in

the nation's capital that just happened with the apparent shooter wounded and in hospital,

but no more details of the suspect and possible motives are yet available as we go to air.

Joining us from Washington, D.C., is Adele Stan, an independent journalist and long-time

chronicler of the right wing of U.S. politics.

A winner of the Hillman Prize in Opinion and Analysis Journalism, her work has appeared

in Mother Jones, the Nation, the American Prospect prospect as well as on the op-ed pages of the

New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. We will discuss what we know so far about the shooting

of two of the 2000 troops Trump has sent to patrol the streets of the nation's capital

and what Trump and the shadow president Stephen Miller might do to take advantage of

this tragedy by invoking the Insurrection Act, for example. Then we'll speak with Julia

Loctev, a Russian-American film director, screenwriter and video artist. She was born in

St. Petersburg, Russia, and immigrated to the United States at

the age of nine. Her award-winning films include The Loneliest Planet, Day Night, Day Night, and Moment

of Impact, a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship and an Emerging Icons Award from the George

Eastman Museum.

Her new documentary is My Undesirable Friends, Part 1, Last Air in Moscow,

which opens in Los Angeles on November the 28th at the Lemley Royal

and in San Francisco on December the 13th at the Roxy Theatre.
