Israel eagerly awaits the return of dozens of hostages

after striking a deal with Hamas for a multi-day pause in the fighting.

prepare for a bountiful holiday, a growing number of American families

are relying on food banks.

After more than six weeks of heavy fighting, a pause in the

battle between Israel and Hamas in Gaza will have to wait at least one more day.

Israeli officials tell PBS News Hour, there will be no hostages released or pause in its

military campaign until at least Friday.

The deal would lead to the release of at least 50 women and children held hostage by Hamas

and 150 Palestinians detained by Israel.

Nick Schifran has the latest. In the hours leading up to temporary peace there's intensified war.

Israeli jets bombed several targets across Gaza today, including Khan Yunus in the south,

where many from northern Gaza had fled for safety.

When the bombing began, some were praying in a mosque, including Abu Ahmed al-Arga.

This is an entirely residential area.
