0:00.0	Hi friends, I'm Annie F Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
0:09.7	These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles.
0:16.5	So here is how it works. I'll read three chapters to you. You can listen or read along in your own Bible or online, and then I'll pray.
0:23.5	And that's it.
0:24.6	So today is day 16.
0:26.1	I'll be reading Mark chapters 1 through 3 in the new living translation.

0:39.7	Mark 1.
0:41.9	This is the good news about Jesus, the Messiah, the son of God.
0:46.0	It began just as the prophet Isaiah had written.
0:48.7	Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you and he will prepare your way.
0:52.4	He is a voice shouting in the wilderness.
0:54.7	Prepare the way for the Lord's coming. Clear the road for him. This messenger was John the Baptist.
1:01.3	He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had
1:05.3	repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem,
1:12.0	went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan
1:17.0	River. His clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist.
1:23.6	For food he ate, locusts, and wild honey. John announced,
1:27.9	Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am, so much greater that I'm not even worthy
1:33.0	to stoop down like a slave and untie the straps of his sandals. I baptize you with water,
1:38.2	but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. One day Jesus came from Nazareth and Galilee,
1:43.6	and John baptized him in the Jordan River.
