Hello, Charles Ravens here, producer of Navara FM and ACFM. You probably won't recognise

my voice, but if you're deeply embedded in the Navara Media Cinematic Universe, then

you'll definitely recognise our guest host today, Kier Milben, who makes the leap from

his podcast ACFM for a crossover episode about one of his specialist subjects.

If you're an ACFM regular, you'll know that podcast as the home of the weird left on

Navara, a show about left-wing politics, culture, music and experiences of collective joy.

On top of Kier's capacious knowledge of politics, philosophy and punk rock, he's also an

experienced local guide to the city of Leeds, and not just for history, you'll see in the local museum.

At the end of June, I escaped London to travel up to his adopted city,

where he's lived for over 30 years since arriving as a squatter from Swansea in 1989,

and we went for a walk around this historic epicenter of industry, trade and capital.

Because of course the history of class struggle is not just an abstract thing,

it happened on the streets and outside the factories, and it was led by real people,

whose victories were often slow and far from inevitable.

So on our walk here mapped out a working class history,

there's as much about violence as it is about solidarity, a history that spans

chartists and communists, unionists and scabs, child labourers and rebellious servants,

and takes us right up to the present day and the future of Leeds as a typical post-industrial

city in a post-crash world. Just to be clear that this isn't your average local history audio guide,

we've given it the ACFM touch, with a selection of clips from some of Leeds finest bands.
