The climate crisis, well, it isn't going anywhere.

And as liable to get worse, simply by virtue of emissions that have already happened.

While politicians are increasingly alive to the issue, what's clear is that a market-based

response is inadequate to avoid warming of even two degrees this century, creating unthinkable

devastation.

And that's before we talk about the 2100s.

So what other kinds of solutions are there?

One is the idea of allowing a large part of our planet to simply return to nature.

I spoke to Troivertess and Drew Pandergras about their new book, Half Earth Socialism, which

proposes radical rewilding, veganism, and ultra-low energy consumption as the only way to address

climate warming, mass species extinction, and future pandemics.

Before we talk about the ideas in Half Earth Socialism, can you tell me a little bit about

yourselves and your personal backgrounds?

I'm an environmental historian, Canadian, educated in the US, and Britain, I'm currently

living in Florence, where I'm a postdoc at the European Union Institute, and I study

neoliberal environmental thought, and working on that led me to think more seriously about

what eco-socialist thought should be like to solve the problems that we're facing.
