It's been a head-spinning few weeks.

Since Donald Trump and Elon Musk entered the White House, we've been bombarded with news of a rapid

realignment of the American state. This deluge is deliberate. It's part of a strategy

that Musk perfected when he took over Twitter. It's a strategy that consists of overwhelming

and, importantly, distracting your opponents.

So intertwined are the UK and America that we can fall into a trap of imagining that

things that are happening across the Atlantic are actually happening here.

But there is a sense in which the drama in America matters for us.

We are, after all, one of the most obedient vassal states of the global American Empire.

So to get a handle on what is substantial and what is mere froth in this latest change in empire,

I spoke to David Adler, one of the general coordinators of the Progressive International.

He pushed back on the claim that what we're watching unfold in the US is actually unprecedented.

Instead, he pointed me towards a deeper force that he calls the reactionary international.

This force goes well beyond the headlines and into the financial and political infrastructure

that dominates our world and imperils the progressive forces that try to change it.

We spoke about how to get a handle on that infrastructure, whether or not the culture of

the far right is a distraction, and why surprisingly, the left should be worried about the downfall
