Power has often demanded silence, but it has also compelled people to speak.

In our own day, compelling people to speak their truth has become a dominant mode of

exerting control over them.

But there's one particularly significant, and perhaps unexpected, moment in the history

of post-war state power that exemplifies these tensions between the compulsion to speak

and the compulsion to be silent, aliens.

Well recently, the imperious silence of the state on the question of UFOs had led to

an endless babble of speculation about them, but there's more to it than that.
