Brian, it's time to preview Notre Dame's eighth opponent of the regular season here on the Irish Breakdown podcast brought you by our friends over at Fanduil.

Talking about the Navy midshipmen, one of their longest standing rivals, actually their longest standing rival, not one of.

This opponent they played the most in program history.

And the midshipmen are in for a very, very interesting season because, you know, in one hand, the G5 is wide open with guys like

Alex Gilles and John Summerall and Ryan Silverfield, all leaving the likes of the G5 and then

moving up. But Navy had some losses of their own and all things that we're going to dive into.

But before we get into it, Brian, I know this is a rivalry that you and I believe should stick

for the duration of time, for all of the history that goes into this rivalry, the level of respect that these two opponents have. And I know that they're always going to catch flack every year. Notre Dame could go undefeated and beat five ranked opponents, somebody will always bring up the fact that they play Navy. But this is a rivalry that we both love. The only people that are people that don't play, have never played Navy. Yeah, they've never played Navy or did not go undefeated or did not make the playoffs. And so they have to find something to nickpick. So that's where I'm at with this one, man. But I know we're getting ready to break down the opponent and talk about what's at stake for them this season, what's potentially coming down the pipe for them. But, you know, first and foremost, I just want to say, this is a rivalry that I absolutely love that Notre Dame has every year. This is a rivalry. And I've heard people say, talk about it, that they, you know, we need to get rid of Navy. We've, we've already done this. We've already done that for them. We don't need to, we don't owe them anything else, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, at what point time do you, do you not owe the person that saved your life, so to speak? You know, like, I just, I don't look at it that way. I don't, I don't like the people look at it that way. There's, there's no harm in playing them. Now, one of the things that people point to that used to be a

legitimate thing was the fact that you, Navy used to be kind of dirty, to be honest with you.

The way that they, sometimes it was intentional. Sometimes it was just more a byproduct of the

type of offense that they ran.

When cut blocking, the way it used to be legal was legal, it was understandable.

You know, Notre Dame would have injuries in those games, and it seemed like they had a

de-leignment or a linebacker go down every year.

You know, it was Geron Jones, Joe Schmidt.

It seemed like every year.

But the rules are such now that that's not really a problem anymore.

You don't see it because you're just not seeing the same type of cut blocks that

there used to be in the sport.

And so I love this rivalry.

I think there's a lot of respect between the two programs.

I think that one thing I like as well, Travis, I could be wrong, but my impression of Brian Newberry is that he understands
