So Trevor, let's dive into kind of the first part of this breakdown of the Notre Dame defense. And let's first talk about

0:22.2

areas where we do think this defense can get better. And number one is, well, we'll actually,

0:29.6

we'll get into the reasons why we're optimistic that they can get better next. But I do want

0:33.8

to address the specific areas where we think this Notre Dame defense can get better. And as we do this, you guys will get a chance to kind of look at where Notre Dame ranks right now in the national statistics when we talk about this defense.

0:44.2

And some of the aspects of it.

0:45.8

And you look at certain parts of it, Trevor.

0:47.5

I mean, scoring defense, they rank 11th in college football, yards per game.

0:52.3

They rank 21st, yards per play. They ranked 21st, yards per play.

0:54.3

They ranked 18th.

0:55.9

And when you actually look at it, Trevor, one of the more fascinating things about their

0:59.8

statistics this season is that so much of what they've done is actually built around success

1:07.5

against the better opponents on the schedule.

1:13.3

And their rankings against Power 5 teams is actually really good. And it's not just because they dominated Purdue, but they also

1:18.4

dominated Texas A&M on defense as well. And when you look at Notre Dame's scoring defense and

1:24.2

you look at their total defense and you look at and you take that ranking against power five teams their scoring defense stays about the same they're 11th but their total

1:33.3

defense takes a bit of a jump they go from 21st to 8th and three of the teams ahead of them have

1:40.1

only have only played one game against a power five opponent and then you look at at their yards per play, 4.4 ranks them 18th in the country,

1:47.8

which is pretty good.

1:48.6

But if you look at only against Power 5 teams, they rank fourth against Power 5 teams.

1:56.0

And so they've actually been pretty good when it mattered most.

1:59.8

Notre Dame doesn't have those let's go beat up on a really bad team statistics that other

2:04.6

teams have.
