Domer Gris, Trevor's fun post-offensive all-star teams from 2010 to 2024 showed me that Brian Kelly

underachieved overall in his time at Notre Dame.

Why do you think he could never have both great offense and great defense at the same time?

Because I just don't think Brian Kelly had the, I think Brian Kelly always kind of thought he could

do things a certain way. And then when he got exposed, he would then

overcorrect to the opposite side. So, you know, I tried to be great on offense early, ended up

not being good, tried to then lean into the defense. The offense got stale. And then also his ego.

And he hires Brian Van Gorder for someone godly reason. And then doesn't want to admit he made a mistake. Every coach makes mistakes. Sabin, Urban Meyer, Dabo, Marcus Freeman has, and will make more when it comes to hires. It's just part of the job. I don't care how good of a coach you are. Nick Sabin deep in his career made hires. You're like, hmm, you just the best coach is kind of fine way that, hey, you know what? That was a mistake. I need to move on from it as quickly as possible. He wasn't willing to do that. And he wouldn't have fired Brian Van Gorder when he did in year three if Jack Swarbrick didn't step in and basically make it happen. And if there wasn't about to be a mutiny in the locker room,

like there were guys, I was told at the time,

there were guys talking about I'm not playing anymore for this guy after the Duke game. Like, I'm not playing for this guy anymore. It got bad. Like there was almost a fight on the sidelines between him and Keith Gilmore. do you know how big of an a hole you got to be to get Keith Gilmore to want to fight you in the middle of a game?
