| 0:00.0 | Bye so hold from Domer Gris. It's difficult to properly evaluate the quarterback competition when the O-line is kind of a mess this spring. I want to sell that. It's challenging in some ways, but in other ways, I love it. I mean, Treb, I explained this to you and Vince, not that you guys didn't agree, but I'm just the one that brought it up first. People are saying like, ah, it's hard to evaluate quarterbacks in a day like this. And I think my comment was at the time, |
| 0:41.2 | I was like, well, I disagree because I learned a lot about the quarterbacks on Saturday. |
| 0:47.2 | I saw one of the quarterbacks, they all had problems with the offensive line. There's one |
| 0:52.3 | quarterback more than the others who let it let everybody know that he was unhappy with the offensive line and how the day was going. His body language was terrible. The other two, not so much. There was a play where one of the quarterbacks made a big play. The other quarterback went running down there celebrating with the other quarterback and the other guy just kind of hung around in the back and wasn't happy about it. That taught me something. Now, that's not an end-all be-all, but that's going to be part of my evaluation for that particular day. How do you handle when you're getting pressured a lot? Those are things that can tell you a lot of times a lot more about your quarterback than yeah everything's clicking everything's working he can |
| 1:28.0 | drop back and throw dimes you know like let's take the cj versus kentie conversation i'm gonna tell you |
| 1:33.4 | all something right now if you're in a setting where it's just everything's going great and you're |
| 1:37.6 | dropping back and making reed stone to football nobody on the team has a chance to beat out cj car |
| 1:42.5 | no chance if that's all you're doing. |
| 1:46.4 | But if you're in a situation where hypothetically, the O line is struggling and the timing |
| 1:52.6 | is off, your receivers aren't getting off the line. All of a sudden, number eight's running |
| 1:57.0 | around, doing some things, making some plays in spite of the O line. And you realize, like, you know what? Like, this kid's not getting rattled. He's making plays with his legs. He scrambles. The defense comes up. He throws it over their head. When things aren't going good, he showed me something that you then don't learn if you're in a situation where you've got your whole group and everything's clicking because you're just dominating the defense. So I actually think that you learn a lot about these quarterbacks this spring, a lot. And there's plenty of things that they do in the spring where the offensive line doesn't matter. It doesn't matter in one-on-ones. The offensive line doesn't matter in seven-on-seven. The offensive line doesn't matter in a weight room. The offensive line doesn't matter in the film room. You know, the offensive line doesn't really have an impact on how you handle yourself when the offensive line is struggling. Look, I played behind a crappy offensive line in college. And as my dad said to me one time, when I visibly let it be known that I was frustrated, |
| 2:51.1 | is like, look, man, that's, that's, that's not what you do. That's not how, that's not what leaders do. Like, look, you can't control what they're doing. You can control how you react to it. It's a great lesson for me. Like, okay, like, am I going to let this spiral? Am I going to have to say, I got to really lock in because I got to figure out how I'm going to make some plays while all is going on. |
| 2:51.9 | So I think you can learn. Am I going to let this spiral? Am I going to have to say, I got to really lock in because I got to figure out how I'm going to make some plays while all is going on. |
| 3:10.6 | So I think you can learn a ton. |
| 3:12.1 | I actually think you're going to learn a lot more about who has the intestinal fortitude, |
| 3:15.6 | the mental toughness, the ability to overcome adversity to lead your team when things aren't going well this spring in a way that you wouldn't if everything was kind of cruising |
| 3:25.9 | along. And so I, that's why I'm going to sell this one. It presents some challenges. There's no |
| 3:34.3 | question. But I think the benefits far outweigh the negatives when it comes to this is how you |
| 3:39.7 | really find out how these kids |
| 3:41.7 | handle it. Because if you can't handle pressure in a practice, with 20 people watching from up top, |
| 3:46.1 | how are you going to handle it when the Miami D line is coming out in week one and they're heating |
| 3:50.3 | you up in that first half in your offensive line not getting their feet wet in front of, you know, |
... |
