Heading into this week, we had about 12 cases left to be handed down and three decision days on

the calendar. Easy, right? Issue four rulings per day, more or less, and hit the road for

summer vacation. Indeed, it's a tradition,

broken recently only during the COVID year in 2020, that the court finishes up its annual business

by the end of June. Alas. It's now clear that the court will carry its business into next week,

breaking that July threshold. As always with the Supreme Court, the only rule is that they play by no rules.

In fairness, the court has been busy. Over the past couple weeks, we've seen a flurry of enormously

consequential decisions, or in some instances, non-decisions, relating to abortion, guns,

and the First Amendment. But the justices have continued to tweak, to jawbone, perhaps to wrangle and negotiate
