I hope you get the long weekend off, maybe even today.

I'm not going to have today off, but I'm looking forward to what I'm doing.

That said, very much looking forward to the weekend. So this week's podcast is about Merrick Garland,

and we'll get into it in a moment, but I'm going to give you a little audio bonus here

for podcast listeners. I mentioned in the piece that I've met Merrick Garland. I'll tell you

that story quickly. So a couple of my former colleagues of the SDNY, this is two years. In fact,

you can peg it because I'll tell you something that will allow you to peg it in time.

So two years ago or so were big shot heavy hitters at DOJ and I was going to be down in D.C. for a bit.

And so we planned to meet for coffee. And they said, well, why don't you come into Maine Justice, the big headquarters building? We'll just have coffee in one of our offices. And I thought, huh, okay, a little bit unusual. I mean, I'd been pretty critical of Garland

up to that point. And I don't know, I thought we would just go to the corner bakery or something.

So I'm in there with them. And after a while, Merrick Garland walks in. He's the attorney general at the time. And I was thinking, holy shit, I don't curse a lot,

but that's exactly what was in my head. I stood up. I was not dressed properly. I mean, I was

wearing appropriate clothes for an adult, but I wasn't in a full suit and tie like I should have been.
