With Speaker Pelosi's trip to Taiwan, that controversial or was China just looking for

a reason?

Well I think we gave China a little bit of an opening here because first of all the

White House or someone in the administration we don't know for sure if it's the White

House, leaked the fact that she was traveling to Taiwan.

Normally those visits are kind of done in secret like a president going to Afghanistan or

Iraq.

Then you don't know about it till they land.

So that was leaked.

And then the Chinese seeing possibility of a huge propaganda victory, a spunness thing

up rather dramatically.

I mean they knew about it back in April and didn't do much about it.

I think some of this has to do with the National Party Congress, which is doing a several weeks

to enshrine President Xi for his third term and likely an indefinite term.

So they seized upon this.

And certainly the rhetoric was literally off the charts.

I mean, threatening war and everything else.

And I actually think that there was a possibility that Pelosi would stand down.

It didn't stand down.
