It is the Greek word Hippocrates and we've been taught that it means a person says don't eat sugar it's bad for you and then you

catch them eating a donut and it's not we've been taught that it means not not practicing what you preach

but it means much more than that it actually means and with help from Bible Project I learned this it actually means to be doing the right thing

Down in biblical days, they would have theater, they would have plays,

and people would wear masks, and they would change their mask in between scenes.

So one scene they'd be wearing a happy mask, the next scene they're wearing a sad mask.

All that meant was they were playing a role. They were pretending. They weren't

actually being real. Who they were on the outside wasn't lining up with who they really

is not just hypocrites, we're talking about all of mankind because all of us

fall into this category, but we're also talking about the idea that we can't be close to God and pretending at the same time.

We can't be close to God and be in an actor at the same time.

in a way, we get close to God once we stop pretending.

Once we stop, when we lay down the mask, when we lay down being an actor and just be truthful. That's a huge step towards God and it's a

huge step of knowing his grace and his mercy that when the mask drops, God still loves us.
