For almost a year, voting rights advocates have called on President Biden to make expanded

voting rights legislation his top agenda item.

Biden, who said reforming the country's election laws, is one of his biggest priorities.

I have to forge a coalition.

Americans vary background in political party.

The advocates, the students, the faith leaders, the labor leaders, the business executives

raise the urgency of this moment.

Because as much as people know, they're screwing around with the election process, I don't

think that most people think this is about who gets to count what vote counts.

But like other major parts of his agenda, the path forward has to go through the Senate,

where Republicans have vowed to block changes to election laws.

This is not a voting rights bill. It's a sweeping takeover of our democracy and a shocking

attack on the constitutional authority of the states.

Senate Democrats, meanwhile, don't have enough votes to pass the legislation on their

own.

But they could change Senate rules and pass it with their slim majority.

Yes, I'm talking about changing the rules of the filibuster.

A silly word that I think we've all heard enough of by now.

But Democrats, they're still pretty divided on whether to change any Senate rules at all.

Senator Kiersten Sinema of Arizona announced she would not support changing those rules.

And while I continue to support these bills, I will not support separate actions that

were sent the underlying disease of division infecting our country.
