Summary

Dominic Raab has resigned. The report into whether or not he bullied civil servants finally landed on the prime minister’s desk – so what should we make of Adam Tolley’s findings? Is Rishi Sunak’s response adequate? And what will Dominic Raab’s stinging resignation letter mean for tensions between ministers and civil servants?  It had already been a lively week for the prime minister, with a big speech on maths education and some awkward headlines over declaring and registering interests. But did Sunak’s speech add up? And how significant was his slip up? Plus: Why can’t government ever come up with plan to tackling this country’s obesity problem? Hannah White presents, with Jill Rutter, Alex Thomas, Sam Freedman and Sophie Metcalfe.  Produced by Milo Hynes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

So Dominic Rob has gone.

Westminster waited weeks for the investigation into the former Justice Secretary's behaviour

In the end, Rab jumped first with a resignation letter and a telegraph op-ed, which made very clear what he thinks about it. In short, Rab is not happy. So we've reassembled the IFG podcast

What did you make of the Tolly report? My first reaction was that it was a thorough piece of work.

0:55.1

It was comprehensive.

0:56.4

It went through systematically the allegations.

0:58.9

It was definitely written by a lawyer.

1:00.8

No one else could have approached it in that way.

1:04.4

I also thought it was interesting that he alighted on the specific,

1:08.7

sort of far more kind of comfortably than the general. The allegations that

1:13.1

he dismissed were the sort of group allegations around the MOJ because they were describing an

1:18.3

atmosphere or kind of were drafted by committee. The one that he particularly focused on,

1:22.8

or one of the ones that he particularly focused on was an allegation around something that

1:26.6

happened in the foreign office where he was quite, you know, he described it quite general, quite generally.

1:31.0

Dominic Raab went into more detail in his telegraph article, perhaps erroneously.

1:35.7

But because that was a sort of specific incident, it felt like Tolly could investigate that

1:41.8

incident, get into the particulars, you know, almost be closer
