| 0:24.0 | Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, everybody. Welcome back to another Knock-On Podcast. This is actually the first podcast where some of you are watching right now live via Instagram Live. |
| 0:40.0 | Kind of pulling double duty here, doing a live feed for some of the Instagrammers and obviously for those of you who are on Instagram, you saw that I made a post this morning. |
| 0:53.0 | I'm asking what questions you guys wanted for one on or 101. This is Knock-On Podcast 101 so I thought it would be an awesome podcast to talk about archery 101. |
| 1:07.0 | And I wanted you all to decide what we were going to talk about. So, here we go. |
| 1:14.0 | Question 1's from Daniel McKenzie and wants to know how to change holding weight. So, changing holding weight can be done several ways. |
| 1:24.0 | Obviously, you can change your holding weight if your bow has the ability to change lead off. So, the difference between say a 65 or 75% lead off on a bow is obviously if you have a higher lead off, you're going to have less holding weight. |
| 1:43.0 | So, that's really the easiest way. Some cam systems have differences in their actual pegs or their stops. I've got my bow back here. So, what I'm going to do is for those of you watching on the live feed, I'm just going to show you here quick. |
| 2:03.0 | So, some companies have different sizes of cam stops. So, this particular cam stop that's on my bow that I'm shooting right now, it's actually a little bit larger of a cam stop. So, technically it touches the cable a little bit sooner. |
| 2:19.0 | And because it touches the cable sooner, that cam stop is going to give you a little bit more holding weight. |
| 2:27.0 | I'm actually right now in a limbo with my personal bow because I'm struggling to find a holding weight as well that I really like for this X3 cam that I'm using on my prevail right now. |
| 2:41.0 | I actually couldn't decide whether I wanted the 65% or the 75% lead off, the 75 feels just a little bit too much. The 65% doesn't quite feel like enough or sorry about that. |
| 2:57.0 | It doesn't feel like I have enough valley. I should change how I'm saying that. It doesn't feel like I have enough holding weight when I'm at the 75% and it doesn't feel like I have enough valley when I'm at the 65%. |
| 3:11.0 | So, I've been playing around and if you're like me and you're in that limbo where you want to have a little bit better valley, you want to maybe have a little bit more holding weight but you don't necessarily have the option to make that change with your cam. |
| 3:29.0 | The next step that you're going to want to do is actually change it using your strings and cables. So, the rule of thumb there is if you serve your cable with a smaller serving diameter, you will increase your lead off and you'll also help your valley. |
| 3:50.0 | The other thing is if you want the opposite, if you have a bow that feels like when you pull back it really falls into a valley and it really is sitting back there with not much holding weight and you almost feel like you can practically let go of the string before it wants to go forward. |
| 4:07.0 | In that case you've got an extreme lead off situation and personally I feel like when you have really low holding weight, for example if you pull back and it just feels like there's nothing back there holding that string it just feels like it's super, super easy. |
| 4:25.0 | You start to have the ability to be very lazy in your shot, lack of daisicle in your shot so you want to have some holding weight there and I think podcast 98 or 99 I had Dave step on with me we talked about holding weight and how that affects your ability to maintain your how steady you hold your bow and him and I have both always got along really well between 14 and half to 16 pounds. |
| 4:52.0 | So on this particular bow this set of strings and cables that I made I actually went with a smaller diameter serving on my cables in hopes that I could increase my valley just a little bit but then once I did it I went a little bit too far so I felt like you know I almost felt like I was shooting my hunting bow and you know with attention style release or a hinge style. |
| 5:22.0 | It actually it feels like you move around a lot more if you don't have holding weight. I actually want to get my good buddy Steve Anderson on a podcast here coming up Steve just shot really really well in Vegas and Steve is on the other side of the spectrum is Dave and I Steve really likes a super demanding bow setup. |
