Summary

We begin this episode by discussing the news that Rafael Nadal has opted not to defend his US Open title due to health risks before moving on to re-live the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

It was a Games which saw Justine Henin-Hardenne win gold, Roger Federer stunned by Tomas Berdych, and double gold for Chile as Nicolas Massu won singles and doubles, alongside Fernando Gonzalez.

We hear from both men at length about their magical week together and what it meant to their country.

The men’s singles silver medallist, Mardy Fish, also opens up about the heartbreak of missing out on gold, what he was feeling while standing on the podium with silver, and why the scar tissue from that experience meant he never played again at the Olympics.

0:59.9	out for the US Open and Rafal Nadal is not on it. He has made an announcement that he will not be
1:09.0	playing the US Open. It is for health risk-based reasons which I think we all respect that. It's
1:19.6	obviously disappointing for the tournament that Nadal won't be there. First Grand Slam
1:24.0	with neither Federer nor Nadal since 1999. On the women's side, nine of the world's top 10
1:33.2	on the entry list, it's only a number one Ash Party that's not on it. Obviously entry list does
1:39.3	not mean list of players that are actually definitely going to play but it's nonetheless,
1:45.2	you know, at this early stage a bit of a boost for the US Open and the other bit of news we've had
1:50.0	is that as entirely expected, the Madrid masters and Premier Mandatory tournament has been cancelled.
1:58.0	I mean the writing was on the wall for that as we discussed on Monday but it has been formally
2:02.4	cancelled. We do understand there's a chance that Kitchbjol which is a tournament that must get
2:09.2	a mention on every tennis podcast apparently might now move back a week to take up that place in
2:17.6	the calendar where Madrid was going to be. Have I said that quickly enough so that we can move
2:22.9	on to Olympic stuff? I've just seen it's possible. Yeah, it's, I mean there are a lot of good players
2:30.0	all over those entry lists and as you say who knows how many of them will end up playing but
