main stories. President Biden promises to back Ukraine for as long as it takes

the southern hemisphere and that really is quite significant. A powerful cyclone

is heading for the southern African coast. President Biden's surprise visit to

Kiev on Monday as we reported in the previous podcast was aimed at showing

support to his ally just days before the first anniversary of Russia's invasion

of Ukraine. Standing alongside President Zelensky in Kiev he said the US would

back Ukraine for as long as it takes to defeat Russia. But how did the visit come

about? He's on North America editor Sarah Smith. There had been widespread

speculation that President Biden might be planning a trip to Ukraine this week

but today's visit still took everyone completely by surprise. He had been

scheduled to fly from Washington to Warsaw this evening on a two-day trip to
