Summary

It’s easy to pretend we’ve got it all together. Especially in the Church. It’s easy to put our best face forward, to post our best photos on Instagram, and to tell our best stories for the world to hear. But none of that really matters if we’re pretending to be something we’re not. None of that matters if we’re actually hurting on the inside….if we’re not taking care of ourselves from the inside-out… if we’re isolated and alone with our struggles. It’s okay to not be okay. After the heart-breaking and tragic suicide of 30-year-old, Pastor Andrew Stoecklein a couple weeks ago, the conversation of what’s happening on the inside-out is one that the church is starting to open up to. I intend to bring this important conversation regarding our mental health to the surface with all I’ve got. As a professional counselor, I’ve both seen and experienced the darkness of depression…and journeyed the road of coming to terms with how much power I give it my life. There’s so much about this I’m talking about today with a very special guest. Because my guest today has also walked this journey. Jarrid Wilson is a pastor who has been so outspoken about his own journey with depression and suicidal thoughts. Not only that, but an incredible ministry was birthed out of his own personal journey of pain called Anthem of Hope, reminding people that… “It’s okay to not be okay” (CLICK TO TWEET!) 1:03.1	that I've been talking a lot about depression. Depression and suicide is a topic that's been in the media
1:10.5	lately, but more than that,
1:12.2	it's a topic that really hits close to home for me.
1:15.9	Six years ago, I was battling depression in my own life.
1:19.5	I was a few days postpartum after having had my second child, and I was a complete mess.
1:32.3	I was struggling to get through the day. My body, my mind,
1:37.9	my spirit felt like they were completely and literally empty. And in complete disclosure,
1:43.0	that time in my life had a direct impact on the health of my relationship and my marriage with my husband, because when you're
1:44.9	struggling, your relationships struggle too. And that season in my life lasted for a while. And in fact,
1:52.7	depression has kind of been an on and off journey for me at different times in my life. But I'll tell you
1:57.7	this, I've learned so much about the journey of depression over the
2:02.6	past decade. And looking back on that experience in my life and my journey with depression since
2:07.9	that time, I can honestly say that I'm grateful. I'm grateful that I understand what it's like
2:14.0	to walk through that darkness because I feel like God has given me the opportunity
