During the era of European exploration and colonization, as the Colombian exchange created a flow of crops,

diseases and beliefs between continents, new legends of giants came back from overseas.

Early European settlers came to believe that some native inhabitants of the quote-unquote

new world, that seemingly mythic and alien land across the globe, were themselves giants.

But were these merely the exaggerations of explorers seeing for the first time a new people that impressed them?

Just as in biblical times the Israelites saw the robust inhabitants of Canaan and feared them as giants,

as I discussed in part one of this series.
