Summary

The phones take over with everything from Super Bowl skepticism to full-blown life advice. A caller argues the Patriots had one of the easiest paths ever to the Super Bowl, but Evan and Tiki make the point that banners do not come with footnotes. Win the game and history does not care how you got there. Then the conversation takes a hard left into one of the most relatable debates of all. Should you ever meet your heroes? From a heartfelt Sam Darnold encounter story to Evan’s painfully awkward run-ins with Carrie Underwood and Kurt Angle, the segment spirals into a hilarious breakdown of why admiration is safer from a distance. The takeaway is simple. Players and celebrities are human, fans are weird, and sometimes the best move is saying nothing at all.

Let's get to some of your phone calls 888-808-101-19. Brian on Long Island's waited a while, so Brian, the floor is yours. Hi, how good. I just want to talk about the Super Bowl. Yeah. I think New England had an easy playoff schedule. They played Justin Herbert with a fraction wrist. DJ Stroud looked horrible, and then they played a backup quarterback. I don't really think this New England team.

0:37.4

I think they're going to get smoked. I don't think it's even going to be a close game. From your lips to God's ears, and there's no doubt, this is one of the easiest routes ever to a Super Bowl. With that said, they're here. Yeah. And once you're here, anything can happen. Yeah, and it becomes about the game plan. So think about the Think about Patriots Rams the first one.

0:39.6

That's exactly what I was going to say. can happen. Yeah, and it becomes about the game plan. So think about the last.

0:37.7

Think about Patriots Rams the first one.

0:39.5

That's exactly what I was going to say.

0:41.8

Yeah.

0:42.4

The Rams were the better team.

0:44.9

No doubt.

0:45.9

Bill Belichick devised a game plan that frustrated the hell out of them and forced them to be

0:52.4

uncomfortable and they didn't have the offense to win it but when you only

0:56.5

have to score 10 points you can win and if they win this game a week from sunday there's a banner

1:01.7

hanging at chalet and there's no little marking on the banner that says right easiest super bowl road

1:07.6

ever right just like if the nicks won an NBA title this year there wouldn wouldn't be an asterisk that says, but Jason Tatum and Tyreys Halliburterner, it doesn't matter. So I admit, and I agree with our last call, and I brought it up for weeks now about their easy road, but they're here, and they're 60 minutes away from making it irrelevant. Let's go to Zach in Brooklyn. Hey, Zach. Hey,

1:29.3

what's up, guys? What's that man? What's up? Good to meet me, guys. I had two points I wanted to ask you.

1:35.2

First off, when you're talking about a corporate locker room, how much of a factor do you think the

1:39.7

most corporate GM in baseball, David Stearns plays a factor in that. And my second point was, how short of a leash do you think David Stearns has this upcoming

1:50.2

season, considering how much of a failure last year was and his failures at the deadline

1:54.5

in the starting rotation?

1:55.6

So two things.

1:56.4

Number one, I think he has zero bearing on the locker room.

1:59.3

He's a general manager.

3:07.9

Yeah. And unless he helps put it together. Yeah. But he's not saying, this is what we're going to do, guys. Games in this corner. Like, he doesn't have anything to do with it. He's not hanging out in the locker room. I don't mean to knock Steve Phillips because I always appreciate which Steve Phillips did as Mets GM, but I'll tell you a joke. It's a famous joke that I once heard about Steve Phillips while you were playing football at the time. So imagine this scenario in the NFL. Apparently Steve Phillips really thought he was one of the guys. Okay? And he'd be in the locker room a lot. And maybe the players didn't love it. So one day the Mets called up a minor league or a young catcher by the name of Jason Phillips. And the joke around the locker room was, wow, he finally did it. He activated himself. So, I don't even know how true the story is, but I've heard it. So it's funny. So we can go with it. I don't think David Stern says any bearing on the tenor of the locker room, nor is he hanging out in there. And the other piece of information, because this was asked of me earlier today, I was a guest on the Mets cast. And that was, if the Mets have a bad year, is David Stern's fired. And the answer is no. David Stearns is the safest executive in New York sports. I think he is safer than Joe Shane. I think he is safer than Darren Mucci. And guess what? I think he's safer than Leon Rose. Yeah. As crazy as that sounds. There's no doubt. So. Because it feels like this is not a short-term plan. No. They're not trying to, hey, we're winning it next year. Like they're putting together team. But look at the structure of some of these contracts. Yeah. You can tell it's like, all right, we're taking a shot. And if it works out, great. If not, then we have options for plan B. And if David Sterns, like, I remember Joe said this comment, I hope we win 70 games, so he gets fired. And what I would tell Joe if I'll still work with him is it's not going to get what you want. It's just going to be a crappy year for us.
