Growing up, I marvel at the kids in high school who insisted on standing out, the ones sporting

spiky multicolored hair, vampire makeup, platform boots, wearing the whole ensembled history class.

They rejected the social order, even if I tried so desperately to work myself into it.

Need casting about like a new arrival from a different country because basically,

for all intents and purposes I was foreign.

My home, my church, the places where my family spent the majority of our time

was a land apart from high school.
