0:53.0	Today's poem is by Nikki Giovanni, an American poet who was born in 1943.
0:58.6	She is a commentator, activist, and has won numerous awards, including the Lankton Hughes Medal and the NWACP Image Award.
1:02.1	She's highly decorated, quite popular, one is certainly one of the best known of all African-American
1:07.6	poets.
1:08.8	And the poem that I'm going to read today is called Rosa Parks.
1:12.0	As I said yesterday, given the circumstances in our country right now,
1:15.9	given the tragic events that led to the protests all across the country,
1:20.0	I wanted to share some poems, some well-known poems in many cases,
1:23.7	by some of our most highly regarded African-American poets.
1:29.6	And so today I did want to share this one from Nikki Giovanni.
1:32.7	It's called Rosa Parks.
1:33.6	It's a bit of a narrative poem, a prose poem.
1:36.7	But I'll read it just the one time, and then that'll be it.
1:39.7	I'm going to keep my comments to a minimum this week.
