Nicky West the Bat singer, songwriter and lead vocalist for the all-female rock band,

Barba Cue Barbies, is our special guest on episode 18, Season 2 of Music Matters with

Daryl Craig Harris.

Hi, Nicky West her back. How you doing?

Hi, I'm doing great. How are you?

I am good. We've known each other for a very long time. And I've known you under different

names. Nicky Rock is one, kind of, with the Barbies, which is kind of like your rock

and roll band, which we're going to we're going to talk about. So we met like, gosh,

many years ago in Helsinki, through my friend Tracy Lyft. Yeah. Tracy Lyft, I went to high

school. He's a producer, songwriter, lyricist there. And so he kind of got Tracy kind of got

you started singing, right? He's definitely the reason why I started singing. I met him in I think

when I was about 18. And I was going to say because I bet you were I think you're still a teenager,

right? I bet you. I'm pretty sure. Right. Yeah. So yeah, I met Tracy. It's pretty a funny story

because I didn't know that I could sing. I thought I was in a singer. And I was thinking myself

as a dancer. So I was at this dance club doing my moves and having fun. And then suddenly this guy

comes up to me and he's like, are you a singer by any chance? I'm like, no, I'm a dancer. I can't

sing. And he's like, oh, but you've got this like star quality around you. And I'm just like, okay,

like, is he trying to pick on me or like, who's this old guy? Well, he wasn't that old at the time.

I was I know. Yeah. I've just picked it. I was about this. And so that's Tracy Lyft then. And

and then he's like, well, you should try singing. And I have this studio and I'm a vocal coach and

I'm giving lessons. And so why don't you come over and let's see if you can sing. And I'm like,

yeah, yeah, I'm not going. I think it went like few weeks or something and then I found he gave me
