The Welcome to another edition of Nightmarefeel creeps and Peepers.

I'm Dan Cummins, and I will be sharing another original short story of the fictional

horror variety.

Been wanting to write one set in the sea for a long time now with an upcoming trip on a

podcast cruise in the Caribbean.

I felt like the right time to force myself to do this.

Fun to set this one a century ago as well.

I had originally written The Dead House for a live show, and I feel like the writing style reflected that.

This one, I think more reminiscent of the more detailed approach I've been playing with lately.

January 31, 1921, Cape Fear Lighthouse, Baldhead Island, North Carolina.

The early light of the morning already appeared to be fading, as if the day had chosen to

disregard the dawn that had just broken or was afraid to confront the storm to come.

A gray, thin light that carried no warmth, poorly illuminated the

horizon. It was the kind of dreary coastal winter's light that made the world look half-erased

and spectral. Headkeeper Malcolm Rourke stood inside the lantern room, eyes narrowed against the glass.

The fog that had been covering everything from the marsh around the

cottage to the shoals beyond them was thinning just enough to see the horizon. That uneasy place
