Charles looked pale and unsteady.

I could have knocked him down with a feather.

He could barely believe what he was seeing.

This was the same for me.

Based on the strip of dark brown oil-skinned duster that still encased most of his limb

and the location of the lost appendage.

I surmised correctly we were staring at what remained of Gus Chambers' right arm, draped

over a branch of Jeffrey Pine, damn near ten feet from the ground.

Bear?

Could be, I reckon.

But I haven't seen a grizzly since I set foot in this part of the country two years ago.

You've been here a lot longer than that.

When was the last grizzly you saw or heard of?
