When you think of nicotine, you probably think about smoking, chewing tobacco,

0:03.5

with the addictive potential of nicotine. But in today's session, we're going to talk more about

0:07.0

the favorable effects of nicotine and its association with acetylcholine neurotransmittersynthesis,

0:12.9

which impacts learning, memory, and movement. And as such, acetylcholine and nicotinic acid,

0:18.4

acetylcholine receptor augmentation and dysfunction is linked with Alzheimer's, schizophrenia,

0:25.0

attention deficit disorder, myastenia gravis, and as well as autism and a whole host of other

0:31.3

conditions. So as a nicotine user myself, no, I don't smoke, no, I don't use zins, no, I don't

0:37.1

use chewing tobacco. I use a product called NICNAC Naturals, and I'll link it below. Not all the time,

when it comes to nicotine use that I want to bring to your attention and highlight some of the

0:52.3

recently published academic literature and talk about use cases for this specifically around

0:57.5

learning, memory, cognition, focus, and also movement. So let's talk a little bit more also

1:02.9

about the inflammatory process and a inflammatory reflex arc known as the colonurgic anti-inflammatory

1:09.2

reflex arc that is actually augmented by nicotine and choline. And I think this is another use case,

1:17.8

and because it doesn't fit in nicely with Alzheimer's and schizophrenia and cognition,

1:23.1

I wanted to just share this with you right up front because when it comes to nicotine and its

1:27.6

potential therapeutic uses, I really don't believe many people understand this powerfully important

1:33.7

anti-inflammatory reflex arc known as the colonurgic anti-inflammatory pathway. And so as you

1:40.4

can see on this image here, this is figure nine, I don't share the reference in the show notes,

1:44.8

but what you see here is how acetylcholine impacts the vagal nerve. We hear all about the vagal nerve

1:50.0

when it comes to improving digestion, gastrointestinal motility in this process of peristaltus and the

1:56.0

movement of the bowels, which anecdotally I think is a nice use case scenario when it comes to nicotine.
