My guest, writer-director Nicole Hall of Center has a gift, I think, for

doing multi-generational comedy drama that are kind of as much about physical territory

as they are emotional territory. Her new film is about both those things. Please Give is the name

of the film. Nicole, first of all, thanks so much for being here. Thank you for having me.

But your films, and it's so funny that I tend to think of them as being about both emotional and physical territory, since the new film is really about both of those things, is it not?

Yeah, it was an interesting way to put it.

Yeah, getting more territory, bigger boundaries around ourselves, bigger houses, more stuff, and emotional territory.

We travel over a lot of emotional territory in the movie.

Well, you can't let the audience know what the movie's about.

It's about a married couple, Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt, and their daughter, Sarah Steele.

They buy the apartment next door to theirs so that they can expand theirs.

But they have to wait for the old woman who lives there to die.

And she's not very nice.

And she's cared for by two granddaughters, Rebecca Hall and Amanda Peet.

And the two families kind of get in a mess.

They have, you know, different feelings about each other and, you know, havoc ensues.

The films really, this feeling in an interesting way, given the sort of the themes you deal with,

it's almost kind of a culmination in some ways.
