Nico Holcombberg belongs in Formula One, but he's had to fight for it. The young star who took a

sensational pole position in his debut season back in 2010 seemed destined for a long career

fighting for wins. In recent years, he's had to make do with super-sub-appearances,

standing in for unavailable drivers. So when Hass offered him a permanent race seat for 2023,

Nico had no second thoughts. The F1 job, the adrenaline, the rush being on the grids,

driving to the grid, doing the formation lap the start, the, you know, the wheel-to-wheel battles,

that is something you don't find, you know, outside of F1 in the normal world.

Everyone is the pinnacle of motorsports, so that's still, you know, very, very attractive,

and the speed, you know, and the ability to do the job. I had no doubt whatsoever. I haven't

aged enough yet. This year marks the Hulk's tenth full season in Formula One,

so he's one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, but he didn't take that for granted

when persuading Hass team principal Gunter Steiner to sign him up.

I knew what was on the line and this was my only shot, my only opportunity, so I was really

invested, you know, pushing him, showing that I'm hungry, that I really want to come back,

sending him information, sending him presentations about the past, and what I could do,

what I have done. So yeah, I was on the throttle pedal to convince them.
