Summary

We talk with Kenny Griffin, NICA board member and the director of the Georgia Interscholastic Cycling League director about the exciting world of middle and high school mountain bike racing. It turns out NICA isn’t just about racing–it’s a much broader program that’s designed to introduce youth to the sport of mountain biking, and to mentor those young people using volunteer coaches. NICA is perhaps the most exciting thing to happen in mountain biking in many years, with leagues enrolling record-breaking numbers of student athletes all over the USA.
Learn more about NICA and the Georgia Interscholastic Cycling League, and find out how you can volunteer or donate to these outstanding organizations.

When we started, I didn't know if it was very obtainable, but after some hard work and a little bit of luck and some good people supporting us through the industry. We had some mediocre success and, you know, created endurance mountain bike races all across the southeast here.

and has been doing some great things with it.

1:51.4

I've been getting a lot of great feedback throughout Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina,

1:55.6

and he's planning on taking it to the next level, so quality is still there at the forefront.

2:01.0

That's awesome. Yeah, I still do a couple chain busters every year, and they're either three or six-hour events at some pretty fun trails around the region.

2:10.3

So let's move into the NICA stuff. So for people that don't know, what is NICA and how does the Georgia Interscholastic Cycling League fit into that NICA framework?
