What's happening sports fans it is a after party podcast but a Monday edition or whenever you listen to it is up to you but me and Ben Lieber are doing a mock draft we're going to pick 12 it'll be the first 12 picks and the best part is is we are going to alternate picks Ben is going to start with pick one with Jacksonville and then we'll go on from there but I'm really excited because it's literally all I talk about at home is the NFL draft and we are as of right now when we were

going to record this we are three days away. Yeah man it is it's super exciting it it's a long time coming I feel like from the combine to now seems a little long I kind of wish the draft was maybe two weeks before this because now all we've done is just over analyze over analyze and we just we put ourselves back in the spin cycle and you just go around and around and around and around it's kind of the same thing.

The the amount of excitement and the amount of buzz after you know into the combine and out of the combine was so high and so electric and and then I kind of dip down a little bit and then we kind of like you know you you could step away and not much almost like a soap opera you could step away for a week or two and not much is going to change but now that it's a draft week. Oh my gosh like just looking at NFL network and seeing them live from Las Vegas right now all week is just exciting.

The the possibilities the the question marks that we have with the Vikings front office what are they going to do. Right we have no idea. That's the best part. Yeah go ahead. No so I was going to say I'm I'm really excited is draft week and I can't wait for a Thursday night. Yeah I'm pumped to because as you just said and we've talked about in the past like normally and when we talked about talk to Tom Pelicero this one on the power trip normally it's like three quarterbacks are going to go like we had last you were three quarterbacks went one two three then you had to

have like some stud wide receiver that's going to go four or five and then you have some guy who's going to go you know you have a defensive end and then all right once we get to pick six we know who the first five are but the pick six in some drafts is the swing pick in my opinion the swing pick in this year's draft is pick two because I'm pretty positive of who they're going to take a pick one but I think once we get to pick two I just think that it could go in any direction you could argue for the Detroit Lions you could argue with me.

A quarterback a defensive end a corner Kyle Hamilton could be the pick at pick two that Detroit team needs anything and the reason I think you can argue a quarterback at pick two is because they're in a perfect position with Jared golf it's the Alex Smith bit with Patrick my homes they have a guy who they don't really care how bad they are because if they're picking at the top again I mean you know then maybe you get the best wide receiver the best weapon you can in next year's draft but taking a quarterback this year for the Detroit Lions I think

would be a huge thing. Well and Detroit's in an interesting situation you know I haven't followed a ton of Detroit football this whole off season and really really overanalyzed what their last season was but my quick twitch after just thinking about even the Vikings games that we played Detroit's they're they're common yeah of course they're on the rise I do think that Dan Campbell has something sort of special there and I think guys are buying into what he's doing I don't think that they're that far away from being

a middle of a pack competitive team they beat the Vikings they beat the but yeah they absolutely beat the Vikings we all understand you know epic collapse by the Vikings at the end of the game at the end of the first half and the end of the game but when you look at the way that they're built the toughness that they have their defense is getting better you know golf is he's not he's not perfect I get that but I think that he can be somewhat competitive so if you look at next year's draft and let's just say they continue to trend

upward they might be picking 15 right you know so now of a sudden you know next year's quarterback class seems to be a little bit better and they're already saying it's a better quarterback class for the prospects than this year's class are you going

to have a chance at quarterback next year mean even probably not even if they trade up right even if even if somehow the lions find their way to like six wins that's the 10th or 12th overall pick yeah you're not going

to get you know one of these guys up there at the 10th or 12 pick these are first second third round pick quarterbacks in the 2023 draft yeah so that's why I think it's a possibility but but without further ado let's just start Jacksonville Jag

Jacksonville excuse me have the number one overall pick second year in a row they've had the number and overall pick they obviously took Trevor Lawrence last year who are they going with this draft you know

this is one of those things that I'm not I'm really not going to try to overthink and he's been long rumored to go number one for a long time and I and I do agree in Jacksonville obviously went huge with Christian Kirk in Brandon

Sheriff in their free agent acquisitions they also picked up Zay Jones so you know wide receiver obviously he's not going to go number one I I do think that they they have to just get some defensive help as much as you want to get

Trevor Lawrence a whole bunch of weapons and all that stuff you kind of you put your money where your mouth is like you went out and got Christian Kirk who you think is is going to be sort of the missing link for that offense

they're they're kind of set at offensive line I mean I I think if you go offensive line you're passing up Aden Hutchinson like are you going to feel good with yourself if you pass up Aden Hutchinson right I wouldn't and if Aden Hutchinson is a two the Lions he's picked within the first on 10 seconds of the 10 minute countdown yeah

I think Aden Hutchinson might be the the safest pick in this draft I think that he has he has a high ceiling and he has you know starting playability and potential

proble type of athleticism right now so I'm going to go Hutchinson yeah I think that's the best pick I mean there there's a walker steam from Georgia that that and then of course they could if they want to protect their investment

Ben they could go offensive line at one but in our mock you're taking Aden Hutchinson but I wouldn't be shocked if it was an offensive lineman I wouldn't be shocked if it was an offensive lineman lineman either which one would you take at one I'd take Aquanu yeah so would I yeah yeah you know I think that there are I think

there are a lot of people who have a Neal is going to be a fantastic player as well it sounds like and you can play all over the offensive line and it sounds like Ike is a little bit more of your tone setter I think that he is going to be a guy that you can build around from an attitude standpoint so I think

Aquanu is probably the better of the two doesn't get as much recognition because he he's at NC state and not Alabama but when you watch the film and all that stuff I think there's just more to like with Aquanu.

The lions of the second overall pick this would be a perfect trade possibility if there was an actual good quarterback in the draft but there is not so the lions with the second overall pick there's a lot of edge guys
