| 0:00.0 | Welcome back. It's the big blue banter. New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier. |
| 0:07.5 | Join as always my co-host, Nick Vallado. Today we are here to continue a little bit of our draft recap coverage. |
| 0:13.6 | And for those following along, the 30,000 foot overview of the entire draft, we broke down each day of the draft. |
| 0:19.0 | This week later this week, we're going to have John Schmelk on from giants.comcom that has just been confirmed. That's been in the works for a while. I'm happy that we can finally find some time. He's a busy guy and he's going to a bunch of Nick games. So good for him on that front. But he will talk Giants draft this as well. And we might have somebody else on. We might have a second guess. We're also going to probably work through the other divisions grades just i think it gives a good way for us to look at what other teams |
| 0:21.6 | did the last year. have somebody else on we might have a second guess we're also going to probably work through the other divisions grades just i think it gives a good way for us to look at what other teams did philosophif different philosophies that other teams use i think it's just interesting to look at and where some of our favorite players nick and i got went in this draft though we'll say this on today's nfcc east recap nick you're going to hear a lot of players that nick was a big stand of in this draft, specifically in the Washington football team. And even myself to another team, the Cowboys, but having said that, one of the players who was a my guy in this class was drafted by the Cowboys, I think he wouldn't have been a my guy if I thought he was going to be drafted in the round the Cowboys drafted him. So we'll talk about that a little bit today. We're doing the NFC East grades, Nick. How are you doing today? Any sleep for you last night? |
| 0:55.0 | Yeah. around the Cowboys drafted him. So we'll talk about that a little bit today. We're doing the NFC East Grades, Nick. How are you doing today? Any sleep for you last night? Yeah, I got a little bit of sleep. I've been grinding through some Trey Hawkins, the third film from Old Dominion, some various Owens films. So I'm just kind of trying to finish up my film work on these day three guys and then go right into the UDFAs. But it's exciting, man. |
| 1:28.2 | It's a lot of work, but it's exciting. I woke up today and I saw on Twitter that you had already put out like 17 clips on these dudes. So I was like, all right. Well, he's not sleeping still. He's still grind. And I appreciate that. I respect that as well. I have a flight coming up. so I plan to, I've already downloaded some caddy cut up, so I plan to watch some stuff. |
| 1:26.9 | But my focus is probably going to be, at least for this. that I respect that as well. I have a flight coming up. So I plan to, I've already downloaded some caddy cut up. |
| 1:44.6 | So I plan to watch some stuff. |
| 1:45.9 | But my focus is probably going to be, at least for this flight on Eric Gray for now. |
| 1:49.8 | And I'll work my way down to the rest of the players as we move back. Fun watch. I know. I want to see some more of him because I really do have a feeling that he could potentially be a 1B type player as soon as this year. |
| 1:46.1 | So we'll see what happens there. |
| 1:47.0 | But today we're here to talk about the other NFC East teams. |
| 1:49.8 | We're going to start this thing alphabetical order. So that starts us with the Dallas Cowboys here, Nick. And I'll say this about this draft. If you're looking for one draft, if I was forced, gun to my head, which team did the, quote, unquote, worst in the NFL draft out of the NFE's teams? I actually would pick Dallas. I think the halls for the other three teams, Giants included, were better. So let's start this thing off. Go pick by pick here. And we'll start with Mazi Smith in round one, which I think was a pretty good pick by them. What were your thoughts and what we could just go back and forth? What were your thoughts on the decision to go Mazi Smith there over maybe a player like Michael Mayer, who people expected? Did you think that the bills had intel? And because of that, traded one spot ahead of the Cowboys because the Cowboys were, you know, going to get Dalton Kincaid. And maybe they had it like a similar situation like the Giants were like, yes, ontay Banks and Porter on the board, yes, Dalton Kincaid and Michael Mayer on the board, but maybe just maybe on the Cowboys board, it was Dalton Kincaid and then it was drop off, drop off, drop off Michael Mayer, Sam Laporte, players like that. And what did you think of their decisions overall to add that kind of beef to the middle of their defensive line? That's, I think, exactly what happened then. I believe Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones wanted Dalton Kincaid. Brandon Bean knew that. I mean, we've seen on Twitter already. Brandon Beaten came out and he was like, yeah, I'll call Joe Shane, my buddy, but they had their eyes set on another player. So the Giants were going to trade with the bills, |
| 3:24.2 | and I'm sure that's something that's more than likely going to happen in the future. Luckily, Dalton Kincaid did not go to Dallas because I feel like he would absolutely terrorize the hell out of any linebacker the Giants decide to put out there because Jason Witten is still terrorizing Giants linebackers. I think anybody that used terrorizes giant linebackers. They end up getting their tight end in the |
| 3:40.9 | next round. We'll talk about that in a little bit. But in terms of Mazi Smith, I like Mazi Smith's game. I think there's a lot of potential there. I don't believe he has the type of upside of a Dexter Lawrence, but I do believe there is some pass rushing juice behind Mazi Smith. But in terms of a run defender, this is somebody who anchored Michigan's defense. |
| 3:39.5 | And everyone's like, yeah, Steve Avila, man, |
| 3:40.9 | he kicked his ass in that game. |
| 3:42.5 | I lost that game. I would say Steve Avila might have won it like 60, 40, but there were some plays where Mazzie Smith was bitching Steve Avila as well. So Mazzie Smith is a dude. But at this juncture of the draft, you get him and then we'll talk about Luke Schoonmaker, |
| 4:14.8 | and that's your one, two, in the first second round. |
| 4:16.8 | And I like Schoonmaker a lot. |
| 4:18.1 | That's not all that exciting at that point, right? |
