I'm John Batshaw, Selected Lines Only. I'm John Batsu with my good colleague,

Evan Ellis, professor at the U.S. Army War College,

a Latin American research professor,

and he's here to help me understand

not only the tumult caused by the tariffs, which we know about in these last days,

but also the moving stories in Latin America, where you will recall over these last years,

there was the assumption that there was so-called pink tide, that is, the elections going increasingly each time,

for a left-of-center president.

And now there's confusion about that, not only because of terrorists, but generally speaking,

the region has some successes, Argentina being one of them.

There's been a gathering, most recently, of the Latin American and Caribbean states.

It's called CELAC.

And I note from the headlines that it was not breaking news so much as reasserting certain assumptions.

For example, Brazilian President Lula de Silva, lambasted, quote, arbitrary U.S. import tariffs

at a summit of Latin American leaders that urged the United Front against Donald Trump's

economic measures. That's the three-time elected president of Brazil. But there are a lot of

small states here in Caribbean states. I notice that Diaz Canal, the leader
