I don't know how many of you remember exactly why Newt Gingrich left the house.

Newt Gingrich gets a pass.

Newt Gingrich is an interesting person to have this conversation about because I mostly

have good things to say about the overall body of work Newt Gingrich brought to American

government.

First of all, he's a very big thinker and almost to a person members of Congress are not.

These are not the sharpest pencils in the pack.

These are not people who've read widely.

They're not people who have thought about the great issues of the day.

They're not people who have a structure in their mind through which they can filter ideas.

They don't understand the historical significance that almost every modern political issue is

simply a regurgitation of nothing new under the sun.

But Gingrich did.

Newt Gingrich was a professor who's well-read and he wrote a lot.

When Gingrich brought the nation together, not just against Bill Clinton in 1994 and

what Clinton was doing in his first two years.

If you were around at that time, you remember that this was really, really disturbing stuff.

Not just Bill, but his crazy wife Hilary.

They were bringing Obamacare to the nation before Obamacare.

People were furious and then he made his big mistake, the gun control measure.

I think more than anything else, that's what got him.
