Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has ordered a curfew as of 8 p.m. Pacific time as protests against

ice raids enter their fifth day. Now things are reportedly quiet. The mayor said she reached out to Donald

Trump on Tuesday in an attempt to dial back the rhetoric and more importantly stop these ice raids.

She has not reportedly, she has said that she has not heard back from him. During a press conference

on Tuesday, Mayor Bass said, quote,

we have to look at the contribution that the immigrant population makes to our local economy.

The mayor added, when you frighten immigrants and they don't want to come to work,

you are hitting at the heart of our local economy.

California Governor Gavin Newsome Tuesday night in a nationally

televised address urging Americans to stand up to Donald Trump, calling this a perilous moment for

our nation. Governor Newsom said, quote, democracy is under assault right before our eyes the moment we feared has arrived.

The governor accused Trump of inflaming the situation first by sending in ice and then the

Marines and National Guard.

Newsom said, quote, we honor our National Guard, but they shouldn't be in Los Angeles.

Newsom said, quote, authoritarian regimes begin by targeting people who are least able to defend themselves. Newsom then added,

but they do not stop there. Trump and his loyalists thrive on division because it allows them to

take more power and exert even more

control. The governor said Trump's border policy is weakness masquerading as strength. Newsom urged

protesters, quote, please, please do it peacefully. Newsom, adding that several dozen lawbreakers

became violent and destructive over the past five days.

He said they vandalized property.
