Governor Gavin Newsom announced a massive $920 million in new funding to combat homelessness.

Andrew Corey reports, most of the money will go to local communities to clean up encampments

and provide accommodations and other services.

To access the funds, municipalities must show they've been active in addressing homelessness

and have plans for new housing. Newsom also launched a website so Californians can track how their

communities are progressing and how much money they've received. The governor also wants to hold

local governments responsible with new rules that could allow the state to take back funds if progress is slow.

The recent fire-related deaths in Altadena show a growing trend in who's being affected by these fires.

Summer Lynn and Terry Castleman report that here, fires are now moving further into

dense urban areas and impacting more diverse communities. Typically, they have impacted

wealthier white households and the death toll usually includes more senior citizens and men.

But according to researchers, of the 17 people killed by the

Eaton fire, more than 70% were black and 64% were women. A Los Angeles Times analysis

showed at least a third of them suffered impairments that could have affected their

mobility. Researchers say this trend could get worse in the future and might have serious impacts

on wildfire readiness.

A growing number of teens are turning to AI chatbots for advice and emotional support,

and it has parents very worried.
