Tonight we're taking the rare step of putting out a short news update to talk about

what's now being investigated as an attempted assassination of former

President Trump. Trump has now posted on truth social quote I was shot with a

bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.

I knew immediately that something was wrong and that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately

felt the bullet ripping through the skin.

This happened just minutes into a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday as the crowd heard a series of pops that sounded like gunshots.

Trump seemed to grab his ear and duck behind the podium as secret service agents rushed in and immediately put their bodies over his to protect the former

president from any more danger.

Once they decided it was safe to escort Trump off the stage, they did so still surrounding

him.

You could see blood on the side of the former

president's face but he put his fist in the air seemingly to show his supporters he

was okay. In a statement the Trump campaign said the former president was fine

being checked out at a local medical facility.

In his online post the former president also extended his condolences to the family

of another person at the rally who died.

A local district attorney confirmed one person who was attending the rally died and another is in serious

condition. News outlets are citing secret service sources who say the suspected shooter was shot and killed as well.

But so far, no word about who the shooter may have been or their motivation.

Law enforcement experts say people who attended the rally would have been screened for weapons.

And the Secret Service has now confirmed the suspect was not actually in the venue,
