I'm Jason Epperson. This is RV Miles, and it's time for the latest in RV and camping news.

0:06.3

Welcome back, everybody. First up, the RV Industry Association has reported its May shipments,

0:11.8

essentially the number of RVs produced, and it's quite shocking what happened in May.

0:17.6

For those of you that listened to this week's episode of the RV Miles podcast,

0:21.7

I discussed this a bit, but I referred to it mistakenly as April's numbers. That was wrong. It is,

0:26.5

in fact, May. Regular viewers of the show know that RV sales have been diving fairly

0:32.4

consistently since the boom in 2022, really, with a very mild recovery last year.

0:39.2

This year has started out with a lot of RVs being produced

0:42.6

compared to the number of RVs sold,

0:45.9

two different numbers that the RV industry watches closely,

0:49.1

the number of shipments, what the RV manufacturers produce,

0:52.5

and then the number of retail registrations, which are what

0:55.3

people actually buy at dealerships. But the report for May shows a dramatic drop in the number of

1:02.2

RVs produced, which may signify that any hope of that timid recovery continuing could be over.

1:09.7

The RV Industry Association's May 2025 survey

1:13.3

of manufacturers found the total RV shipments ended the month with 28,150 units, a 15.1% decrease

1:23.6

over May of 2024. That's the first year-over-year drop in six months. And it's a big one

1:30.7

with conventional travel trailers performing even worse, dropping 22.8%. Overall, motorhome

1:38.4

shipments were actually up 6.1% compared to the same month last year, but motorhomes have already been struggling hard.

1:46.6

Now, some of this may have to do with tariffs.

1:49.1

Either there are actual effects or concerns over them.

1:52.9

It's certainly possible that the early production this year outpacing sales was to get ahead of tariff effects.
