Hello, listeners, Maddie Watts here. This month is going to be a bit of an atypical episode.

0:06.0

As you may have noticed, Mike is not here and we will not be doing a case today. On the past few

0:11.9

episodes, you might have heard us talking about an international opportunity that I was lucky enough to

0:16.1

participate in through my residency. For the past two months, I have been in New Zealand, and part of that time,

0:23.4

I was able to actually work in the ED as a registrar, which is basically the New Zealand equivalent

0:29.3

of a resident. Doing so made it a bit difficult for me and Mike to record, so that's one reason

1:16.0

in place.

1:17.3

And obviously, I only know how this works with regards to one country.

1:22.1

So I won't be able to give you a how to guide of working abroad, whether in residency or after residency.

1:31.2

Secondly, this is just my personal experience. It's directly shaped by the specific ED environment

1:38.1

that I've worked in in the States, as well as the specific ED environment that I worked in in New

1:42.5

Zealand. And so the things that I experienced

1:45.2

may not be generalizable to other people's experiences. That being said, I'm going to try to keep

1:51.3

this as factual as possible based off of what I've learned through talking to some of the
