I am your host, John B from gangreneation.com.

If you're new to the show, this is a daily podcast covering the New York Jets.

0:12.0

Today we are breaking down a Jets loss.

0:13.9

They fall in their season opener to the Pittsburgh Steelers 34 to 32 at MetLife Stadium.

0:19.2

I think this game showed that in many ways, things have not changed

0:23.9

between 2024 and 2025. But it also showed some things might be changing. So how do we make

0:31.0

sense of a contradictory statement like that? Well, first, let's talk about what went wrong for the New York Jets.

0:36.4

We saw a lot of the same

0:38.4

things that plagued them in 2024, plagued them again once today. And the Pittsburgh Steelers

0:43.4

had a quarterback Aaron Rogers who took advantage of it. Rogers threw four touchdown passes.

0:48.0

He let a game-winning drive. If you're like me, you were watching this game. You're watching

0:51.3

Rogers play spectacular football. and you're saying,

0:55.6

where was this last year? Why did this version of Aaron Rogers not grace us with his presence more

1:01.1

frequently? We saw a few glimpses, you know, the season finale against Miami, where he also

1:05.2

threw four touchdown passes, a great game against Jacksonville. But this was not the version of Rogers

1:10.3

we saw frequently last year.

1:12.3

And I think that there's a reason for that. The Jets were busting coverages left and right in this

1:17.2

game. It was a really sloppy game for the Jets in a number of areas, but particularly on the

1:21.7

defensive side of the ball. How many times did a guy run wide open? And if you're a Jets fan,

1:26.6

you probably have a pretty good scouting report on Rogers right now. You know that he's not a guy with a lot of mobility left. He's not a guy who really stands tall in the face of a heavy pass rush at this point. He's not a guy who really can create much on his own. He's not a guy who at this point is even throwing guys open all that frequently. The arm strength is not what it used to be, but there's nobody who processes the game better.

1:48.5

And you can get away with busted coverages against a lot of quarterbacks in this league.
