This is a fun service. Guys, my name is Derek Davidson, and I have the privilege of serving this staff as the family minister.

And speaking of families, my family growing up

was a no video game household. Shout out to those in the room that were like that as well, or you're like

that right now, which meant one thing. When I went to a friend's house, I would play video games.

And I was the 90s kid, so we were playing Donkey Kong and Super Mario and Zelda. And exactly, thank you. And I was the 90s kid, so we were playing Donkey Kong and Super Mario and Zelda.

And I remember those games, something that was really important is that as you were going along the levels or you're going along the world, you'd reach these things called checkpoints.

And when you reach that checkpoint, it meant that if you lost, you didn't have to go back to the beginning. You would just go back to the checkpoint. Kids, do you guys ever played a game like that? Yeah, thank you. I got a couple of you that played a game like that. And that's, it's fun. It was really important because it marked how far you've gone. And I thought about that as I was preparing for this morning because we have these moments in our life that can be checkpoints. And the new year is a

perfect time for a checkpoint for our lives and especially for our faith. But the problem is too

often we just rush right past them. Kids, I know we said that Christmas isn't about presents,

but I want to hear from you. On the count of three, yell as loud as you can, your favorite present you got, okay?

But again, hey, why did we celebrate Christmas?

Kids? Jesus, Because Jesus did what?

He did die on the cross, but not at Christmas. That's an Easter. That's a great guest, though.

He was born. That's right. On Christmas, Jesus was born. Just last week, we celebrated the amazing miracle of the incarnation,

the greatest miracle potentially ever. But in two days, we go back to school. Some of you are already back at work or you're about to be back at work. Sports are going to start back up.

You may be traveling. You have wedding season. All these crazy things happen. And if we're not
