Howdy folks, Dominic here. We have come to another Wepet-Renpet, the opening of the year,

0:08.2

at least in the Western calendar. For the ancient Egyptians, the new year started a few months

0:13.4

ago, around late August, with the rising of the Nile flood. But times change, systems change,

0:20.0

and we on the history of Egypt podcast are marking

0:22.9

our transitions at the end of December. I am taking one week off to spend time with family,

0:29.8

but this coming weekend I'll be doing another live stream about the village of Dia el-Medina.

0:35.6

In particular, I'm talking about the fabulous tombs built by

0:39.6

their inhabitants. There is a lot of wonderful scholarship about these artists and the builders,

0:45.3

and I want to synthesize some of it to explain how did a private citizen build their own tomb.

0:52.1

That live stream is happening this weekend via YouTube Live. You can find the

0:57.0

links and the time in the episode description, or simply follow my YouTube channel to get the

1:02.7

notification. After that, the narrative will resume on January 3rd. We are now in the home stretch

1:10.0

of SETI the 1st I reign, and there are some remarkable

1:13.1

events and monuments to discuss. We're going to explore a major festival that Setti particularly

1:18.9

emphasized, and the grandiose temple he constructed to honor it. We're also going to visit the

1:24.8

king's tomb in its completed state, to explore the art and decoration,

1:29.3

and the king's burial, what remains of it, and how we can understand it.

1:34.3

We'll talk about Setti's mummy, one of the best preserved of all the royal mummies,

1:39.3

and what it can tell us about the man himself, his lifestyle, and daily life in that particular period.

1:46.1

And we'll discuss some interesting mythology that comes from Setti's tomb, including the great

1:52.3

story of the goddess Hattor and Sakhmet, and the time when they nearly destroyed the world.

1:59.8

All of that is coming up in the next few episodes,
