In this episode, Nate and Coach Jonathan explain all the details behind TrainerRoad AI, the biggest evolution yet in TrainerRoad’s training system, walking through how the new AI-driven approach goes far beyond static plans to dynamically simulate, predict, and personalize every workout on your calendar. They explain how years of performance data, workout feedback, power and heart rate, and progression history now power a system that actively chooses the right workout for the day, reduces burnout, cuts down workouts that are too hard or too easy, and helps athletes recover faster from missed sessions or failures. The conversation dives into how simulations work behind the scenes, why long rides and “hidden fatigue” can quietly sabotage progress, and how features like AI Predicted Difficulty, AI Training Simulation, Dynamic Duration, and Training Approach sliders give athletes confidence that every session is worth their time. The result is training that feels consistently “just right,” adapts to real life, and helps athletes get faster with less wasted effort and fewer mistakes along the way.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Asked Cycling Coach podcast presented by Trainer Road. It's an exciting one. We have |
| 0:03.1 | our CEO Nate Pearson with us. And we're going to talk about the biggest update we've had in a really long time, Trainer Road AI. It's exciting to have you, Nate. Ever. Not just a long time, like, ever. This is, yeah, ever. We have, usually we, like, release features pretty fast, and we like try to get them out as soon as possible, |
| 0:22.6 | but we were a little more ambitious for this one, |
| 0:24.9 | and we like try to get them out as soon as possible |
| 0:22.2 | but we were a little more ambitious for this one and we like bit off a lot more and it was hard |
| 0:28.5 | to chew. |
| 0:29.9 | I'm just saying, yeah. |
| 0:31.1 | But I'm really, really excited to talk about it. |
| 0:35.0 | Yeah. |
| 0:35.2 | So it's definitely the biggest release we've ever done. |
| 0:37.7 | I think also the most impactful for people's training and what that's going to mean |
| 0:40.9 | for how fast they're going to get and how motivated they're to train and how to |
| 0:45.4 | like not waste your time and ease of use of the app. |
| 0:48.3 | And also some features that have been the number one requested, |
| 0:56.8 | requested feature of trainer road and also things you've never requested, didn't even know you wanted. It's like the, uh, I mean, |
| 1:01.4 | this is over blowing it, but, uh, no one asked for a car, right? They wanted faster horses, but we got |
| 1:05.7 | some other cool stuff that no one's done in my knowledge, and I'm really excited to share. |
| 1:10.7 | Yeah, absolutely. We're going to run through all the different things that are included within it. Also run through some data that is going to feel maybe a little inside baseball on the data, Nate, in the sense that like we're going to show like some, it's not raw as them we're running you into the tables and showing you stuff like that. We're going to show you the data that we look at when we make sure that this actually does make you faster. We're going to talk about how it's different in terms, because everyone says they use AI these days to varying degrees of honesty and effectiveness. So we're going to go into that. And then we'll walk through all the features and everything else. Nate, where do we want to start with this? Yeah, I want to talk like the history. So we've had, you know, the original trainer road where we just kind of put like on a plan, these are the workouts you should do. And the problem with that was based on where your FTP is, but where you're also in like your progression inside your FTP, some workouts could be too hard, |
| 2:02.6 | some workers could be too easy. |
| 2:04.1 | After that, we did adaptive training, and that was our next big one. |
| 2:08.0 | That's we going to do his workout levels. |
| 2:09.6 | You understood, like, we could get you better with inside the progression. |
