0:19.6	rephrase it. Which parts of the Bible make you feel uncomfortable? I think it's
0:24.1	inevitable that as Christians living in our day there are going to be parts of the
0:27.7	Bible that are offensive, parts of the Bible that just rub us the wrong way.
0:31.7	I think that's always been true by the way.
0:34.0	Christians have always had parts of the Bible that seem countercultural to them that are
0:38.9	offensive to them regardless of what century they lived in or what continent they lived on.
0:44.2	So what is it for you that makes you feel uncomfortable?
0:47.1	Is it Jesus talking about wealth?
0:49.3	Or maybe it's when he says to love her enemy and turn the other cheek.
0:53.6	Or maybe it's Paul talking about women in the church
0:56.2	or God committing the Israelites to wipe out the Canaanite.
0:59.6	I mean, the list could go on and on.
1:01.6	There are lots of uncomfortable stories in the Bible and
1:04.3	they're also uncomfortable prayers, specifically in the book of Psalms. I think
1:09.4	Psalm 26 is one of those prayers. Now Psalm 26 doesn't make me uncomfortable because it
1:14.3	questions God's goodness or his ethics. It doesn't make me uncomfortable because it
1:19.2	introduces me to some hard teaching that I need to follow.
1:23.0	No, it makes me uncomfortable because honestly I don't know if I should even pray Psalm 26.
1:28.0	I mean listen to the first couple of verses of David's prayer and I think you'll be able to tell what I mean.
