Summary

New runners always want to know exactly how much time they would need to devote to run training, if they decided to take on a half marathon or a full marathon.  A new study has the answers, and the amount is less than you'd think. On the podcast, we discuss how much time and what that training time should look like (hint: it's not all long, steady running).  And, if you're already using the MOTTIV training app, the study findings are already part of the training we offer!

What's up, Motivators? Taryn here with our co-host, NTK, no triathlon. Kim.

Today we are talking about a few new studies that have been coming up that have identified

0:11.1

the answer to the question, how much do you need to train for a half marathon or a full marathon,

0:17.3

which is, I think, really exciting for us because people have tended to grow

0:22.1

large audiences by falling into one of two camps when it comes to endurance train. One, the,

0:28.0

hey, let's do this minimally. Let's do this in a time efficient way. Let's do this in a hit

0:33.4

training way or like CrossFit endurance where you'd spend most of your time lifting weights

0:38.6

and then just a tiny amount of time actually run training or endurance training. And then the other

0:43.9

camp was, hey, let's suffer and let's train the house down and always go harder. And I've been in

0:50.4

the middle saying, you know what? No, more isn't better. Less isn't better. Appropriate is better.

0:56.1

And finally, we're getting a lot of studies that are all pointing towards what appropriate actually

1:01.7

is. And I think that's a good thing because people... It's a great thing. I am pumped about this.

1:07.1

Well, people want to know the actual number of hours they need to put in and not somebody's

1:12.2

guess, right? They want to know exactly what they need to do to get the results they want,

1:16.6

which is finish a half or finish a full marathon. No guessing, no opinion. This is fact. And that's

1:22.7

great. I think what was happening over a lot of years was that it might not have been guessing,

1:27.8

but it was just not explaining the nuance.

1:30.0

So let's say the minimalist training athletes were saying, hey, to run a half marathon

1:35.6

or a marathon, you barely need to train.

1:37.9

And I would say, yeah, that's right.

1:40.8

But you're probably not going to perform very well or the people who are training

1:45.3

that way and performing well and growing a big audience because of it. Well, they're probably a very
